Mythical Note
Thalassa, the ancient goddess embodying the sea, was considered a primordial deity. In union with Pontos (Pontus), she was believed to be the origin of fish and various marine beings. Representing the sea's physical form, Thalassa in Aesop's tales is depicted as a female figure made of sea water, emerging from the ocean depths.
